Is your dog or cat constantly itching?

August is Itchy Pet Awareness Month, but we all know that dogs and cats sometimes itch, scratch, rub, bite, lick and chew on their fur year-round.

“Awareness” is important, though: itchy dogs and cats might be telling us something about their health, as itchiness can often be a symptom of a problem that requires treatment.

There are numerous reasons why the dogs and cats in our lives have itchy skin. Causes of itching include parasites, such as fleas and ticks, bacterial infections, and - one of the most common reasons - allergies.1

We recommend taking your pet to your veterinarian to diagnose the cause of the itch and have their skin and ears checked.

Once a cause is determined, treatment may include topical therapies, oral medications, injections, or even diet changes.

If your pet is diagnosed with allergies, we offer products such as ALLERMYL® (Piroctone Olamine) Medicated Shampoo for management of allergic skin conditions.

ALLERMYL Shampoo is soothing and moisturizing, and it does not contain added fragrance, coloring agents or other ingredients that can lead to further irritation of your pet’s skin.

The less scratching, the happier your pet will be!
