Free program in collaboration with Mary L. Berg to enhance dental protocols and client education in clinics

As an innovator in pet dental health products, Virbac recently launched its new C.E.T.® Dental Authority Certification Program, alongside Mary L. Berg, BS, RVT, RLATG, VTS (Dentistry) to help veterinarians and their healthcare teams better protect their patients' smiles. It is a free, online, self-paced program that educates users on the importance of preventative dental care in pets and how a comprehensive dental protocol can benefit both clients and clinics. The program also provides helpful tips on educating the client and facilitating those important dental discussions.

Periodontal disease is the most prevalent disease in dogs and cats1 and, when left untreated, can lead to life-threatening kidney, liver and heart muscle changes2. This program aims to reduce the prevalence of periodontal disease by increasing the percentage of dogs and cats receiving regular professional dental care. It’s designed to empower veterinary professionals in client education and motivation.

The program has four asynchronous sessions:

  • Introduction to Preventative Care in Dentistry: an overview of periodontal disease, including an in-depth look at each of the four stages.
  • Professional In-Clinic Care: an examination of the basic components of professional preventative dental care, including steps that make up a Complete Oral Health Assessment and Treatment (COHAT).
  • At-Home Care: an outline of active (i.e., tooth brushing) and passive (i.e., dental chews and solutions) at-home care, the place and relative value of each, and specific examples and suggestions.
  • Relationship Building: a set of  client communication tips and ideas for harnessing all team members’ roles in building client trust and confidence.

After completing the final session, participants will receive an official Dental Authority program certificate and identifying lapel pin, as well as a Virbac C.E.T.® Dental Authority clinic kit, which includes in-clinic and client education resources.

"I'm so proud of how the C.E.T.® Dental Authority Certification Program came together to be such a robust curriculum for users," said Mary L. Berg, a notable opinion leader in the field of veterinary dentistry. "Not only will participants learn more about preventative dental care, but also for communicating with clients to continue this care at home. Tying in-clinic and at-home care together - with the client relationship at the center - is crucial for maintaining the pet's oral health."
